Injectable Fillers (Soft Tissue Augmentation)

 

One of the earliest signs of aging is loss of facial fullness and the development of wrinkles. Softening of these wrinkles and restoration of facial volume and fullness can be achieved with injectable fillers. Injectable fillers allow quick and noticeable corrections. Injectable fillers can enhance shallow contours, soften facial creases and wrinkles and improve the appearance of depressed scars. They can be used to “fill” and smooth out deep facial furrows, acne scars, and smile lines. They can also be used to enhance the border of the lips for those who desire a fuller look.
 
Treatments take less than half an hour, and may require a local anesthetic to numb the area. Side effects such as swelling or bruising are minimal and should fade within a few days. Results are visible immediately after the injection and can last for months or years, although the procedure can be repeated as often as you wish.

PLANNING

During your initial consultation with Dr. Olivier, she will thoroughly discuss your desires and expectations for injectable fillers (soft tissue augmentation) with you. After a comprehensive history and physical examination, Dr. Olivier will review the options for injectable fillers (soft tissue augmentation) and recommend the option that she thinks is best for you. Dr. Olivier will discuss specific instructions for preparing for your procedure, including diet and medication requirements. She will also clearly explain your post-procedure needs so that you can prepare in advance.

PROCEDURE

Your face will be marked as a guide to your injections. Topical numbing agent and local anesthetic may be administered. Injections take less than an hour to be performed. Following injection cold compresses may be applied.

Soft tissue filling of recessed scars, deep wrinkles and lips may require multiple injections. The results are visible immediately. However, minor bruising, redness, numbness and swelling may be present at the injection site. Your final results will be apparent when the swelling and bruising subside.

It is important to understand that the result of injectable fillers is not permanent. The reappearance of facial creases, wrinkles, depressed scars, facial furrows will occur over time should you choose not to repeat treatment.

COMPLICATIONS

Although complications from injectable fillers (soft tissue augmentation) are uncommon, the risks are dependant upon the type of filler used and the area treated. The risk include: bleeding, bruising, swelling, infection at injection site, lumps or nodules, asymmetry, rash, redness, over or under correction.
